Humanizing health care at the heart of Horizon Europe

  • 17 January 2023

In December, the European Commission launched the new  Horizon Europe work programmes -  the EU's funding programme for research and innovation, with a budget of €13.5 billion.

The Health cluster is divided into six Destinations, each of which focuses on a different aspect of the future of health

  1. Staying healthy in a rapidly changing society
  2. Living and Working in a Health-Promoting Environment
  3. Tackling Disease and Reducing Disease Burden
  4. Ensuring Access to Innovative, Sustainable and High-Quality High Care
  5. Unlocking the full potential of new tools, technologies, and digital solutions for a healthy society
  6. Maintaining an innovative, sustainable, and globally competitive health industry

The importance of patient centered holistic care is a recurrent theme on all the destinations!

In the new work programmes, the EU recognizes that healthcare requirements vary depending on an individual's age, stage of life, and socioeconomic status. Physical and mental of the patients can be influenced by their individual situation as well as the broader societal context they are living in. AFFIRMO shares the EU concerns that people ́s health can be impacted by a rapidly changing society, making it challenging to keep pace and find its way through new technological tools and societal changes, which both are increasing demands on the individual ́s resilience.

To leave no one behind it is essential to reduce health inequalities and to support healthy and active lives for all, it is crucial to provide suitable and tailor-made solutions, including for people with specific needs. To achieve this, the EU wants to foster holistic and person-centered approaches toward health care.

AFFIRMO project promotes a more humanized approach to healthcare. Patient-centered care will also empower citizens to manage better their physical and mental health and interact with doctors and healthcare providers.

We look forward to the new projects!
