Humanising health care: towards a customised approach to diseases

  • 16 November 2022

The annual event Il tempo della salute, organized by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, has reached its 2022 edition, with four days entirely dedicated to health, medicine and well-being in the company of the greatest experts in the fields of medicine, sport, research and culture.

Among the various speeches, the Corriere della Sera reports an interesting interview of Guendalina Graffigna, a PhD in Social Psychology and one of the key persons from the AFFIRMO partner Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.

Graffigna highlights how humanized cares have emerged again to be an urgent and fundamental approach to make medicine closer to the patient and its personal needs.

As a matter of fact, she reminds that hospitals, clinics and medical points only take care of diseases, without considering the health care of individuals and the respect of their dignity. On the contrary, as the World Health Organization suggests, health is not only the absence of disease but a state of both physical and psychological well-being.

Therefore, each person should receive a customized approach towards their own diseases, also by being involved in their entire therapeutic journey, of which he or she is the main protagonist.

What is needed is an all-round structural change, of healthcare personnel, of hospitals, of society; an engagement where cares are accompanied by relationships, empathy […]”.

A customized and personal strategy to diseases is the future for medicine sector, in order to implement the quality of health cares. And AFFIRMO project strongly believes in this approach!
