Help shape the future by joining UE’s Call for Evidence on Cardiovascular Health Plan
- 29 April 2026
The European Commission has launched a Call for Evidence, inviting citizens, health professionals, patient groups and organizations across Europe to contribute their views on improving the early detection and screening of cardiovascular diseases.
The initiative is part of the Safe Hearts Plan, which aims to strengthen prevention, detection and treatment of heart-related conditions. The Commission highlights how cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of dead and disability in the EU and underscores the importance of expanding health checks and screening programmes, noting that fewer than half of EU Member States currently have dedicated cardiovascular screening initiatives.
The Call for Evidence aims to gather a wide range of insights on the current challenges in cardiovascular disease detection and screening. It also seeks to explore potential areas for action and determine the expected impact of any proposed measures. The Commission is particularly interested in contributions from patient organisations, NGOs, healthcare practitioners, researchers, academic institutions, and other interested parties that wish to give their views.
The consultation is open until 19 May 2026, and all interested parties are encouraged to take part of this initiative.
