Global AF Aware Week 2024: Shining a Light on Atrial Fibrillation

  • 18 November 2024

From 18–24 November, the AFFIRNMO project joins the Global AF Aware Week 2024, an international campaign led by the AF Association to raise awareness about Atrial Fibrillation (AF)—the most common heart rhythm disorder, affecting millions of people across the globe.

This year’s theme, “Hearts Beating, Minds Meeting”, underscores the importance of global collaboration in improving understanding, diagnosis, and care for AF. Despite its prevalence, many people remain unaware they have AF until it leads to serious complications such as stroke or heart failure.

At the heart of the campaign is the Detect, Protect, Correct approach:

  • DETECT: Encourages individuals to check their pulse regularly, as early detection can be life-saving.
  • PROTECT: Highlights the need for appropriate therapies to reduce the risk of AF-related strokes.
  • CORRECT: Promotes access to effective treatment options to manage AF and improve quality of life.

Raising awareness is vital—AF often goes undiagnosed, yet it significantly increases the risk of stroke. Through education, community engagement, and shared knowledge, Global AF Aware Week aims to drive early detection, safer outcomes, and better support for those living with AF.

The AFFIRMO project proudly supports the goals of Global AF Aware Week 2024. As a European research initiative focused on improving care for older patients with Atrial Fibrillation and multimorbidity, AFFIRMO aligns closely with the campaign’s mission. By promoting integrated, patient-centred care and advancing tools for better AF management, AFFIRMO contributes to the broader effort of enhancing early detection, prevention, and treatment—ensuring that no patient is left behind.

Join the movement and help spread the word. Because together, with hearts beating and minds meeting, we can make a difference. To learn more about AF click here.
