AFFIRMO researchers at the 2025 Summer Institute on Ageing

  • 01 June 2025

The AFFIRMO project is proud to announce the participation of two of its distinguished researchers at the 2025 Summer Institute on Ageing, hosted by Venice International University (VIU). This prestigious summer school, which begins today, is a collaborative initiative supported by VIU and its member institutions: Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the National Research Council of Italy, the University of Lausanne, and the University of Padova. The program is further backed by the Age-It project Spoke 6, focusing on the “Silver economy. Work, participation, retirement and welfare.”

The Summer Institute on Ageing offers a multidisciplinary and rigorous exploration of the ageing process, combining insights from medicine, epidemiology, economics, and sociology. This year’s edition includes:

  • three-day summer school (June 9–11) on “Multidisciplinary Perspectives in the Study of Ageing based on Longitudinal Surveys”, featuring lectures, testimonials, and hands-on sessions.
  • two-day workshop (June 12–13) titled “Ageing, Health and Retirement”, with presentations and discussions led by international experts in the field

The Summer Institute on Ageing brings together scholars, researchers, and professionals from across Europe to explore the multifaceted challenges and opportunities of ageing societies. AFFIRMO is honored to contribute to this dialogue with two insightful presentations:

  • Prof. Marco Proietti (Heart Care Foundation, Italy) will present today, Monday, June 9, from 16:30 to 18:00. His talk, titled “Atrial Fibrillation in Older Adults: The Role of Geriatric Syndromes and the Importance of Integrated Multidisciplinary Care”, will delve into the complexities of managing atrial fibrillation in ageing populations and the critical need for holistic, interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Prof. Martin O'Flaherty (University of Liverpool, UK) will take the stage tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10, from 16:30 to 18:00. His presentation, “Adding Value to Observational Studies with Simulation Models: Improving Lives of People Living with Multiple Conditions”, will explore how simulation modeling can enhance the impact of observational research and inform better health outcomes for individuals with multimorbidity.

These presentations reflect AFFIRMO’s commitment to advancing research on multimorbidity and promoting integrated care strategies for older adults. The Summer Institute provides an exceptional platform for early-career researchers, postdoctoral scholars, and professionals to engage with cutting-edge research and develop practical skills in handling large-scale ageing datasets.

We are excited to follow the contributions of our researchers and look forward to the insights and collaborations that will emerge from this international gathering.
