Professor Gregory Lip from the University of Liverpool will represent AFFIRMO at ESC Congress 2026, taking place in Munich from 28 to 31 August 2026.  

The annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology brings together cardiovascular professionals from around the world to discuss the latest developments in research and clinical practice. Within this international setting, AFFIRMO’s participation will contribute to the discussion on how to improve care for older patients living with atrial fibrillation and multiple chronic conditions. 

Multimorbidity and atrial fibrillation 

On Sunday, 30 August, during the afternoon session, Professor Lip will take part in the session “Multimorbidity in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation: focus on AFFIRMO, EHRA-PATHS, and AF-B-STEP.” 

The session will explore the challenges associated with managing atrial fibrillation in older people with multimorbidity, bringing together insights from three European initiatives addressing this complex area of care. 

The programme will also feature a lecture entitled “Holistic or integrated care management of atrial fibrillation: insights from mAFA, MIRACLE-AF, and AFFIRMO”. 

Promoting integrated and patient-centred care 

Through its contribution to the session, AFFIRMO will present its work aimed at improving the management of atrial fibrillation through a more integrated, personalised and patient-centred model of care for older people with multimorbidity. 

Participation in ESC Congress 2026 will offer an important opportunity to share the project’s work with the international cardiovascular community and contribute to the broader discussion on the future of care for patients with complex health needs.
