Fondazione per il Tuo cuore (Heart Care Foundation Onlus - HCF) is a research foundation founded in 1998 and registered in the ONLUS registry. Its aim is to provide citizens with correct information on cardiovascular diseases and to support scientific research in the cardiovascular field. HCF, with its ANMCO (Italian Association of Hospital Cardiologists) Research Center directed by Dr. Maggioni, possesses all the tools required to manage clinical studies focused on crucial clinical questions that can lead to results with a significant impact on clinical practice. HCF collaborates with independent institutions and in the last 5 years it has coordinated large observational study (BLITZ-HF, EYESHOT-POST MI, BLITZ-AF, MATADOR-PCI, COPE, BLITZ-AF Cancer) and has also co-ordinated the Italian sites in multinational large-scale clinical trials planned by pharmaceutical companies (Val-Heft, Valiant, CHARM, etc.). ANMCO Association together with the "Mario Negri" Institute for Pharmacological Research is the promoter of the GISSI Studies since the very beginning.

Investigators from ANMCO Research Center of the HCF Onlus will be responsible for management, data analysis and GCP monitoring of the AFFIRMO project.

Key persons

Dr. Aldo P. Maggioni

MD, Director of the ANMCO Research Centre of the HCF and member of the GISSI (Gruppo Italiano per lo Studio della Streptochinasi nell'Infarto miocardico) Coordinating Centre. Twenty-five years of planning experience, he organised and conducted national and international clinical trials and surveys/registries in cardiovascular care, analysing and interpreting their results. He has served on the steering committees, event evaluation committees, or data and safety monitoring boards of more than 40 clinical trials. Author of more than 700 papers. Member of the Editorial Board of the following journals: Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine, Cardiovascular Drugs and Therapeutics, Evidence-Based Cardiovascular Medicine, European Heart Journal, European Journal of Heart Failure, Circulation Quality and Outcomes, BMJ cases.

Dr. Donata Lucci

Project Manager and statistician. Graduated on Information Science. She worked at Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan as data processing manager. From 1992 she is working for the ANMCO Research Centre of the HCF as project manager and statistician. Responsible for the coordination of many clinical trials and surveys/registries conducted by HCF. She has been responsible for coordinating the Census of Italian Cardiology Centers run periodically by HCF/ANMCO. She has been involved, as a speaker, in training courses on Clinical Research Organized by Ferrara University and Bologna University and speaker for the Training Course on "Methodology, strategies and techniques of Clinical Research" organized by HCF. She has 113 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Andrea Lorimer

Regulatory affair manager. He has been working for the Heart care Foundation for twenty-five years. He is responsible for the regulatory procedures for the studies of the HCF or managed from HCF for other institutions. He supervises contacts with Competent authorities (OsSC) and IRB and all the administrative aspects to activate a study in a site (contract negotiation, administrative authorization, site payments). Dr. Lorimer is responsible for the definition of the budgets for the HCF's research projects and for budgets and contracts with the pharmaceutical industries or other institutions; he has been the contact person for training and speaker at the training course "Methodology, strategies and techniques of Clinical Research" organized by the Foundation itself. He has 15 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Martina Ceseri

Project manager and study monitor. Biology Degree, Master in Clinical Research Associate. She has been working for the Heart Care Foundation for 18 years as Project Manager and Clinical Monitor. She is responsible for Study Coordinators and Clinical Monitors collaborating with HCF in Clinical Trials and Registries promoted by HCF and/or conducted in collaboration with other Entities, and for remote monitoring activities performed by HCF. She has been responsible and speaker for the Training Course on "Methodology, strategies and techniques of Clinical Research" organized by HCF, managing related Internships in Italian Hospitals. She has been involved, as a speaker, in training courses on Clinical Research Organized by Ferrara University, Verona University, Cortona (AR) and San Bonifacio (VR) Hospitals. She has 12 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Gianna Fabbri

MD, Graduated in the School of Medicine. Clinical consultant for the Research Center of the HCF. Her expertise fields are atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease and heart failure. She has been working for the Heart Care Foundation for twenty-five years as Clinical Support and clinical help-line for studies conducted by HCF; she has been scientific adviser and member of the Event Validation Committee for several national (e.g. GISSI Prognosi substudy of GISSI Prevenzione Trial, LATIN, BRING-UP) and international (e.g. REVEAL, COMPASS) research projects. She has been coordinator of the Clinical Events Evaluation Committee for the following trials: GISSI-AF, GISSI-HF, CandHeart. She has participated in the protocol writing group of ATA-AF and BLITZ-AF study. She has 44 publications on peer-reviewed journals.
